Aseptic Technique: a Review of the Literature

چکیده

Humans have adapted over time to live in a microbially dominated world and developed the nonspecific and specific immune systems required to cope with contamination by microorganisms. Sources of microbes for wound infection can be divided into endogenous and exogenous groups. The endogenous organisms already colonise the skin, orifices and cavities of the patient and their total on and in the body outnumber human cells by a factor of at least ten (Cooper, 2005). Microorganisms from beyond the patient’s body, whether they are from another person, animals, equipment or the wider environment, are called exogenous organisms. Generally speaking, planned closed surgical wounds should be presumed to contain little or no contamination from either of these sources, but wounds healing by secondary intention will have a diverse colonisation of organisms, known as a bioburden. In these open wounds, if there is progression in the direction of healing, it is reasonable to presume that this bioburden is being kept in a suitably healthy balance by the immune system. Comparison of the Knowledge and Performance of Surgical Technicians and Technologists Regarding the Observance of the Aseptic Technique

Background & Aims: Surgical site infection (SSI) is a common postoperative complication. The observance of the aseptic technique is an effective measure to prevent SSI. The knowledge and performance of surgical technicians and technologists play a pivotal role in the proper implementation of this technique. The present study aimed to compare the knowledge and performance of surgical technicians...

Comet assay as a sensitive technique in occupational health studies; A literature review

Background: Occupational health is a sensitive field in many countries where occupational exposure needs attention due to the lack of awareness. Several businesses, including leather, textile, iron, steel, and dyeing industries use a variety of mutagenic and genotoxic chemicals. Exposure to these chemicals may pose serious health risks, including genetic damage to workers. Comet assay is a tech...

Analysis of Cerebrospinal Fluid in Diagnosis of Bacterial Meningitis; Using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy: A Systematic Review

Background: Analysis of biofluids provides a unique window into the biochemical status of a living organism since the composition of a given biofluid will be modulated according to the level of function of the cells that are intimately concerned with its manufacture and secretion. One of the most successful approaches to biofluid analysis has been the application of NMR spectroscopy. Objective...

Aseptic techniques for labour epidurals: A survey and review of neuraxial anesthesia practice

Background: Aseptic technique is essential for the prevention of infection during labour epidural procedures. The literature suggests there is significant variability in aseptic practice among clinicians which often depends on personal beliefs rather than scientific evidence. The main objective of this survey was to determine which components of aseptic precautions in labour epidural anesthesia...

Atomic Force Microscopy Application in Biological Research: A Review Study

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is a three-dimensional topographic technique with a high atomic resolution to measure surface roughness. AFM is a kind of scanning probe microscope, and its near-field technique is based on the interaction between a sharp tip and the atoms of the sample surface. There are several methods and many ways to modify the tip of the AFM to investigate surface properties, ...
